Fashions Dirty Secrets revealed once again!

Part of the inspiration for setting up Feel Good Fashion came from watching Stacey Dooley’s Fashions Dirty Secrets. I had no idea it took 3 tons of water to make one pair of jeans & how fashion is 2nd on the list as a negative impact on our enviroment.

Over the last 5 weeks, I’ve been watching Simon Reeve’s South America & last night featured his visit to the fringes of the Chilean desert & the clothes mountain that exists there.

If you have the time, I urge you to give it a watch & see how fashion is not only causing issues for the enviroment in the making of garments, but also where it goes when it is no longer needed.

Some facts from last night that blew my mind…..

    1. In the UK in 2019, it’s reported that consumers purchased 61 billion new items of clothing - the highest level in Europe.
    2. Europe & the US export millions of unused clothing items. It’s thought in the UK, we throw away up to 13 million items of clothing PER WEEK!
    3. A quarter of all chemicals made on earth are used to produce clothing & 10% of carbon dioxide emissions come from clothing production.

If you’d like to give it a watch for yourself, here’s the link to copy to your browser or head over the BBC IPlayer and search for Simon Reeve’s South America.

Extending an item's life by just 9 months lowers its carbon, water and waste footprint by up to 30%, so purchasing preloved has got to be the way we can all make a difference 💚♻️
